Cooking in Italian (Week 10) Torta tenerina

To choose this recipe I didn’t have to look further into its ingredients. I didn’t even need to see a picture. It was love at first sight. When I first saw the name, I immediately liked it. With such a sweet name (torta tenerina ~ tender cake), it had to be good. And indeed it was! Among all the recipes, this was my favorite name 😊.

Before choosing a vegan version on YouTube I checked many recipes, including those which were not vegan. This looked like a super chocolaty cake. All the recipes asked for a lot of chocolate. Some had very little flour. The one I chose was made with rice flour (for extra tenderness!)

Recipe of the Week: Torta tenerina

For this recipe I used half of the ingredients. I thought that 400gm of chocolate would be just to much chocolate😅. So, I used 200gm and half of all the other ingredients. The mixture I got was very similar to a brownie. But more tender, of course! The powdered sugar on top gives it a nice final touch.

With this cake I learned that a creamy coconut milk and rice flour can make a great base for a cake like this. This recipe had very little sugar inside because of all the chocolate (and because of the sugar outside!). The result was great! Ideally, this cake is to be eaten at a warm temperature. It goes well with a tea!

As you see in the pictures below, the cake is quite short. And that’s fine! It’s one of those cakes that uses no leavening agent. I would definitely do it again in the future 🙂.

New Vocabulary

I added 6 new cards to my Anki deck, based on new words and expressions used on the YouTube videos used for this recipe. There were some words in this list that I already know, but I want to reinforce them. I used the Google Chrome extension “Learning Languages with YouTube” (from the same creators of “Learning Languages with Netflix”).

That’s all for now! ðŸ˜Š
